The Weiss Group at Vanderbilt University currently engages in research involving photonics, optoelectronics, nanoscience and technology, and optical properties of materials. We are particularly interested in photonic applications of nanomaterials, including the detection of small biomolecules in nanoporous silicon waveguides and silicon photonic crystals; the emission of pure white light using LEDs based on cadmium selenide nanocrystals; and the ultrafast modulation of optical signals using hybrid silicon-VO2 ring resonators.
